Te Whariki principles

The Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood policy statement sets a framework for all early childhood education services to deliver a curriculum that empowers our tamariki to be self-assured and proficient learners. Each service is tasked with setting up their own curriculum based on the principles, strands, goals, and outcomes as outlined in the Te Whāriki.

We at Blooming Stars understand that each child is an individual meaning we always strive to design the curriculum and focus areas based on the child’s individual needs, taking into account their interests, strengths and the desires of their parents’ and extended whānau.

The five strands within Te Whāriki are

Wellbeing
Mana Atua
Belonging
Mana Whena
Contribution
Mana Tangata
Communication
Mana Reo
Exploration
Mana Aotūroa
Our aim at Blooming Stars is to encourage our tamariki to explore all the five strands above through
  • Exploring and experiencing various sensory skills
  • Becoming more confident and self-aware of their bodies thereby gaining physical independence and control over themselves
  • Emboldening them to understand, explore and experiment with their physical, mental, social and material surroundings
  • Fostering their natural curiosity to question and communicate their experiences
  • Nurturing a sense of belonging and community
